Pros

Lovely view of Lake Michigan. Diligent and hard working work staff. Splendid modern office building. Monthly office happy hours with free beer, wine and food.

Cons

Utterly incompetent upper staff management who have micromanaged accounting department to death. Recent conversion to new accounting system failed, but no backup plan to return to previous system. Resulting sudden and vast increase in work load led to recriminations against staff members, not senior management. Staff worked 6 or 7 days a week to keep up after conversion and soon began to leave in droves, ten since conversion, leading to greater workload on those remaining who are now looking for new jobs or mulling retirement. Upper management can't or won't stop bullying of employees by self styled big shot attorneys who demand their bills be processed first, and leading to constant interference in workflow, regardless of impact on other attorney's bills. Terrible work environment begging for massive reform.

Pros

Pay, International Travel and Pedigree

Cons

If you are a collaborative, entrepreneurial thinker who enjoys working in an open, supportive work environment, this company is not for you. The top-down leadership style is closed, secretive and not open to new ideas. Many leadership roles are held by long-timers who have little interest in understanding the market and feel insulated by the firm's past reputation. They are comfortable with the status quo. Finally, the firm culture if one of fear as lay-offs are common and independent thinking is discouraged.

Pros

This is a large law firm with offices around the globe. Being able to work together with administrative staff from other offices and cultures was a great experience. There are a lot of very smart, talented attorneys here.

Cons

Staff in all departments are stressed, under a lot of pressure and constant deadlines that are unrealistic. They like to outsource everything that they can while leaving the local employees in charge of catching mistakes, work overload, hounding supervisors, unhappy employees abound, huge lack of transparency on many levels, a hostile work environment.
