The top-down leadership style is closed, secretive and not open to new ideas. Many leadership roles are held by long-timers who have little interest in understanding the market and feel insulated by the firm's past reputation. They are comfortable with the status quo. Finally, the firm culture if one of fear as lay-offs are common and independent thinking is discouraged.
