Pros

Great Benefits Great Salary if you are looking for a promotion of epic proportion 9/80 work schedule $2/day lunch in the main building cafeteria

Cons

You work on stuff, but cannot take the work with you if you leave (no flash drives or emailing stuff to yourself) Big Brother is watching everything Like working for the government AMEX Corporate Card will be denied if you have so-so or crappy credit; you will have to get your supervisor to pick up your expenses (very ridiculous) New floor model is cubicles for everyone, only managers are in offices Most employees belong to cliques' just like High School (corporate office) Procedures to accomplish work on a daily basis are very vague, complex, confusing and not very consistent. Idiots for managers at times, just depends on your business division and area

Pros

The people at BHP are fantastic. Professionally they are elite-level thinkers, very committed to business outcomes AND supportive of staff, and try to live the Values of BHP. The business itself is quite open about planning-for and implementing Automation. This honesty is tough to do, but they're doing it well. They take their corporate responsibilities very seriously (making a profit) - but their is also a strong culture of delivering social and community responsibility. I felt the balance was right. Overall a fantastic company to work for. One of the very best for anyone who wants to work with 'the best'.

Cons

As with all giant corporates, BHP understand Technology will drive what the business looks like in 5, 10, 20+ years. Unfortunately, BHP Technology is not where it should be - and doesn't look like getting there any time soon. Crucial initiatives like Culture, Integration, and Implementation just 'haven't gone anywhere'. It's a tough place to be at present, and BHP is losing some terrific people. Pay and benefits might not be as 'above-market' as they once were, but still pretty good. No other 'Cons' comments, really. Transformation initiatives are always tough on staff, and BHP is no different. Thankfully most of them are moving ahead (just Technology holding up the show).

Male Dominated - No Direction

Pros

salary, benefits, parking, offices are nice

Cons

Managers do not know their people. Very white-male dominated environment where smart women or minorities are not given a place. They make ignorant females supervisors if they dress and act sexy. Most of the experienced people, more than 40, were layoff so the workforce is made of very young, inexperience people ("yes sir" type of people). Therefore, the company lacks solid technical expertise and compass. It is a mess.
