      Pros

      Excellent remuneration and employee benefits. Some wonderful and very talented people in all departments.

      Cons

      Incredibly political. Too many 'empire builders' in management positions who should never be in charge of people. They are given free range to make their direct reports miserable. While there are official processes in place to report this sort of thing most people know that the repercussions of reporting incidents of bullying etc by management will be harsh. The last 7 years that I was there the company had formed a 'cult' type mentality where you basically were not encouraged to use your own initiative or even to think for yourself lest it be outside of the 'BHP Billiton way'.

      Good benefits including $5 lunch, flex 9/80 schedule, gym subsidy, etc.

      Cons

      Company is very top down approach. You are told to execute the plans without having the opportunity to ask why. The managers could be mean in certain departments. Young people here are trying everything to make their managers happy in order to get promoted without really wanting to learn things. The management sometimes bully the people reporting to them and ask the direct reports to do ridiculous things. In some departments the analyst work like their manager's secretary-bring the managers coffee, cake, and presentation papers; book their manager's flight and organize manager's birthday party. If you are willing to do that you will get promoted within quickly. It does not matter what you do, it is how you 'make the management happy' that matters. Really bad culture here.
