Pros

As a Field Service Engineer, I was probably on travel over 70% of the time. Travelled to Portugal, Mexico, many US locations, and was slated to go to China and Russia before I resigned to pursue other opportunities. Pay was great, on top of travel expenses.

Cons

So much travel, some times you didn't have time to breathe before you're off to the next site. Company made the transition from JC Carter Pumps to Atlas Copco, so the company started to cut expenses. Travel policy remained unchanged for Field Service Representatives and it stated that all international travels, or travels greater that 6 hours, will be in Business or First Class. After 10 days in Portugal, working over 15 hours a day, the Company changed my ticket to Coach without notifying me (to save $300). Not a good way to say thank you for a job well done, by sticking your employee in cramped travel arrangements, especially when I would do a turnaround to China in a couple of days after returning. Before becoming a part of the Atlas Copco team, I normally travelled First Class on my own dime, so I paid the $1200 charge to get me back into First Class. Needless to say, I resigned the following day that I returned, to pursue other opportunities.

Pros

I loved my job for over three years. The training was superb and I loved interacting with the customers. The manager I had for most of my time there was outstanding.

Cons

A change in management brought me a manager with little management experience and a "bully" mentality. Not good.

Pros

Everyone in other departments when out of their way to help me and to share their knowledge with me, help me do things even if it wasn't anything to with their department.

Cons

We all (5 of us in a row) sat very close to each other, which you would think would make communication very easy. Wrong. The only communication with each other was through Jabber (like a message app) or through email. If you were stuck, confused or having a trouble with something you had to, almost every time, wait for a response to an email. Even though they could just turn around to help you. They wanted a visual of what you were asking like they needed proof that you were the one who was doing it wrong, to keep themselves out of trouble. That it was YOUR fault not theirs. Worst of all they would get mad if you were shown something wrong. They would wait till it became a larger problem, then they would send you a nasty email telling you messed up and screwed up a process. And in turn causing problems with other peoples jobs. So instead of explaining what you did wrong and helping you fix your mistake, so you could learn for them. They would just fix it for you and make you feel bad for doing something wrong or not understanding it in the first place.
