Shady Hiring Practices

Pros

Decent salary and benefits if hired.

Cons

If hired on as a contract employee, beware as it could take up to 3 years to be hired on as an Arkema employee. THIS WAY THEY DON'T HAVE TO PROVIDE BENEFITS or add head count (whatever that means).

Maintenance Manager

Pros

Able to work with some very good maintenance personnel, engineers and professionals. Usually good opportunities for a variety of positions with in the plants.

Cons

Need better communications from upper and middle Management to plant staff! Plant Managers with hidden agendas, protecting favorites. Need better work/life balance. No real appreciation for those that go above and beyond. Salary and benefits tend to be behind industry averages. Annual review process is poor, plus core values do not necessarily match those of local plant management. Relatively high personnel turnover, do not seem to value and/or need to improve the environment/culture to develop personnel and foster loyalty.

Thanks for your comment. We are glad you enjoyed the quality of your colleagues, all professionals in their respective fields. About salary, it depends on the country you are based in. For example, in France the avreage wage is around €33,000 per year without distinction between sectors, industry and job lebel. At Arkema (France), the minimum salary for an entry-level engineer position is €39,000 per year. Plus, the personnel turnover is around 3%, which is quite low.

Pros

Starting salary and benefits, work/life balance, coworkers who aren't in the management hierarchy.

Cons

Salary quickly flatlines into "raises" that are barely account for inflation, R&D promotions only existent for people holding a PhD, absurd safety culture that makes completing any work within a reasonable timeframe almost impossible.

Within R&D you can evolve on different kind of job: as a researcher or as a developer. The first group is most likely to have a PhD, due to the specific environment/accountabilities. Nevertheless, developers can work on different R&D projects accross BU with strong links with business manager or production plants. If you want more information, please contact the HR department and your career manager. We will be glad to help you developing your career.
