Pros

Decent training, discount is ok, the people i worked with excluding management & team leaders where all nice people to work with & made some new friends.

Cons

What an absolutely awful experience. Argos is one of those companies who only care about hitting targets. They never take into consideration that it was sometimes hard to complete this targets as it was dead after Christmas time. Each of us would get moaned at, not only that but belittled. The management & team leaders only cared about themselves. They'd tell us we can't have a drink of water to sip at if we needed yet they'd come back with cups of coffee. It was all one way. They changed shifts the night before then blame us for not coming in. No company that I have ever worked for has only given a few hours notice. It's unbelievable. If I had time off sick everyone in store seemed to know why, surely that's my business? It should stay between myself and the manager. This store I worked in was within a homebase which meant not only did everyone know my business from Argos but they also told people in homebase. I've never been somewhere so unprofessional & rude.

To be honest there isn't any pros at all with this job, they just like taking the mick out of you in a bad way.

Cons

Everything!! Argos don't know how to run stores, I have friends in other stores and they say exactly the same as me!

Pros

The team is great, the colleagues come from diverse backgrounds so you don't feel pressured to act or behave a certain way, you can just be yourself and everyone gets along like a big family.

Cons

You will be disciplined if you don't meet your targets but not rewarded or even be acknowledged if you meet or overachieve your targets. The bosses (outside of the store - so your bosses boss or the area manager/their boss) only cares about making money. No one that works for Argos feels acknowledged for all the hours and hard work you put in. Your pay depends on how many hours you do and they cut hours so they can save money, for example if the store is only busy from 4:00pm - 8:00pm they will only schedule you in between those times. You will have a maximum of only 16 contracted hours and if you want that to increase you will need to work hard to aim to get a promotion, that's right, you have to be promoted in Argos in order to get the same pay and hours of someone that works as a regular sales clerk in a regular retail environment. Your discount is only 10% which is actually less than what customers sometimes get if they have a promotional code or voucher. You have to pay to attend your own Christmas party. If you stay behind after the store closes, to help out, you won't be paid for it. We work hard and sweat and take a lot of crap from customers and we're expected to smile sweetly and be their punchbag, you will be sworn at, shouted at and spat on and if you do anything other than take the bullet you will be disciplined by your manager. You will be enforced to meet your targets and sell insurance as this means more profits and more pay, for the bosses. Not you. The bosses receive big bonuses, so big that they can afford to by a house for their relatives. You get no bonus.
