Pros

As a team leader, wages are slightly improved ( for a band one store, the wage increase was around 60p per hour) although wages were low for standard team members to begin with. The work itself was reasonable and more enjoyable than other similar jobs.

Cons

Contract hours are very low, around 15 for team members, 25 for team leaders. Wages are below average for similar work and at least in my case as a fast track team leader, hours were bad. A lot of responsibility (17 team members to manage) and overall wages were around 7.80. which is low considering it is also a driving job. Often 5-6am starts following a 10 pm finish,

Pros

Good staff discount, fairly good pay if you work long enough hours. You get a free brew IF you actually manage to get a break.

Cons

The health and safety exams are out-right stupidity! I worked there for no longer than a month, I was left upstairs in the warehouse (where it was absolutely freezing) And I had to complete a health and safety exam. Come on guys, it's Argos, not BAE SYSTEMS. You get examined on how you lift a certain item (Do it wrong you have to take the whole test again) Which by the way, the test took me (If I genuinely stuck to it) about 3 months. The management? Jesus christ.. Maybe not in all stores but God sake they have their heads in the clouds at Barrow-in-furness. They left not just me, but I think 3 others in separate rooms in nasty conditions, no breaks or anything, to finish off this lousy test (It's not hard, but it really.. Really drags, I got told it took one member a year to complete) Other than all that, it seems like a okay place to work - just make sure your bank isn't a Furness Building Society! Some how they have no clue how to pay into it without it taking 2 extra months.
