Pros

If you are assigned work, it is interesting. Otherwise you will do nothing but CPE.

Cons

Firm does not share work across offices or "lines of business". Results in a poor use of human capital and lack of growth. The firm only appears to promote staff who started with them out of college. Not a team environment and management at Orange county office needs leadership training. HR department is out of touch.

Fine if you like to be micro-managed!

Pros

The unlimited snacks and company-paid meals during busy season. Also, the relaxed dress code during the two busy seasons in the year.

Cons

The office I worked in was so micro-managed that people were in constant fear of their jobs. If you're not a favorite of management you will likely be placed on a PIP. They did this several times. If that happens, quit or find a job before the termination date. This office changes rules constantly and expects the employees to be puppets and mindreaders! Beware of harassment being overlooked by management. The recognition program is a joke!! It totally perpetuates favoritism and not the true efforts of employees who put in long hours and work on projects. Communication is not clear and very inconsistent with the over-worked and frustrated managers and directors. Glad I up and quit and found a nicer place to work.

Pros

1. Starting out in this firm allows you the opportunity to work on various types of clients (PCS, AIF, commercial and etc.). If you are lucky, you can choose to concentrate on one type of client. 2. Compensation is acceptable if you don't know what others are making. 3. Paid time off is good if you don't have to make up for your time being away. 4. Training has improved over the years but quality of work has gone down. 5. They still try to have fun but business model has changed and the firm no longer finds the need to initiate nor pay for periodic happy hours and what not. 6. The office has some kind and diligent individuals. There are a lot of talents and PCS experienced partners.

Cons

All of the pros end up being cons as well...... 1. Just because you are assigned to a certain group doesn't mean you don't have to work on other clients. Basically you end up working on everything outside your assigned group and a ton more from your assigned group. Ohh.. Lucky, lucky you! 2. Like what others have mentioned, you may be a senior with a bachelor degree but you'll end up making less than a new associate with a law degree. What about raises? What about bonuses? That money already went to the firm's huge expansion plan. Next question please. 3. Going on vacation is great but what's better is you get to work after hours and on the weekends until you finish all the work that was supposed to be done while you were away. 4. Accounting and tax are not super intuitive concepts but you can't help but wonder why and how they remain to be foreign languages for some people in the office. 5. The budget has been cut for entertainment. Most of that money went to recruiting and activities for the intern. Why? They foresee huge turnover and decided to invest in minions. 6. Ever had a demanding boss that gives you a huge project and wants it in an hour? Think about having 10 or 20 of them pulling you in different directions.
