Fantastic staff, extremely poor management

Pros

Mission of the organization is amazing, amazing enough to keep even poorly treated staff involved for years after they leave the organization in a staff role; fantastic staff; general feeling of community / family with fellow staff

Cons

Staff are often promoted to management without any managerial skills; sexual harassment and harassment in general is common, and overlooked, even when reported; labor violations are rampant; even constructive criticism is viewed as "treasonous."

Pros

Met so many talented, passionate people. Exposure to various types of works ranging from administration to research and community organising.

Cons

Amnesty is like a huge campaign machine. Sometimes you get bogged down with the tasks, processes, and nitty-gritty details that make you overlook the bigger picture.

Inconsistent

Pros

Feeling a part of an organisation fighting injustices

Cons

People often promoted to management positions because of their knowledge of the subject the dept deals with despite their lacking sufficient managment skills/training. Constant 'acting up'/temp promotions of staff to other positions results in lots of backfilling to temporary posts at the levels below it and results on lots of lower graded staff stuck on a series of temp contracts. Too much bureaucracy.
