Pros

The pay is about the only good thing here, and lots of opportunity for overtime.

Cons

The management doesn't do anything, and you're co-workers want all the new people to do the work, they all cut corners. It's like being in high school all over again, you have a in crowd and if you're not in it your treated like an outsider. In blood collections, you don't have a set schedule, as well as spend overnights away from your family.

Great Mission, Great People, Challenging Leadership in some areas.

Pros

A great and honorable mission and dedicated employees who believe in the mission.

Cons

Change averse organization that also lacks the necessary leadership training. There are rogue leaders who feel like it is ok to mistreat employees when things don't go as planned. It is important that Leadership realize that a lot more will be accomplished by pulling together and not "eating their young". There are a few leaders at the VP level who have come into the organization from the corporate world where it was cut-throat/dog-eat-dog and they unknowingly are bringing the mentality with them which is very disruptive to the culture of the American Red Cross. In the non-profit world and particularly at the ARC, everyone has to do more with less. The way to do this is not to treat people as a means to an end, but to value, respect and coach.
