Mixed emotions but would not go back

Pros

Fantastic mission, great volunteers, wonderful opportunity to interact with other non-profits to deliver services to those in need.

Cons

Continual changes in policy and procedure, hiring new paid staff that have no idea what they are doing, poor management at the national level, always a reason why they can't take care of their paid staff but yet seem to find money to do their own little pet projects. Low pay, not compensated in any way for working 24/7.

Very dedicated donors and volunteers.

Cons

Lansing location -There is no true order in drive rotation schedule due to favoritism. The HR dept may as well be non existent because the only time you will get any communication from them is after you have done all the work yourself. These are the laziest and most whiny coworkers i know. If they close this location it would be any improvement on the organization as a whole.

Disconnected, incompetent management HR You're just another body, no matter what They claim to be a "humanitarian organization," but that is so far from the truth. The only thing that motivates them is $$$$$$$$ Unfair wages set by outdated union contracts Daily fluctuation in schedule Some weeks you might get 50+ hours, and the next week you get 30.
