Pros

Experience of working for a huge company

Cons

Huge company is actually a cons rather than pros. As in majority of huge companies, Amdocs' treats are: * high vertical management hierarchy; service workers are on the lowest levels and they have dozens of managers above them * loose coupling between senior management and people who actually do the job (developers, engineers) * people are treated without care; all that huge companies care about is profit, profit, more profit * you shouldn't hope for judicious compensations, promotions, etc. - instead be prepared to see favoritism * you will be squeezed and left out once you've done your part.

Pros

Amdocs in India was considered a dream employer. The myth was broken when I worked in there. But the people who has seen Amdocs outside India say that it is better abroad. The Indian management are full of people who have no idea how to run a company. That results is great dissatisfaction amongst employees. I have never seen a team with a lower morale than the one I worked in. Pay used to be good, but not any more. Best reason I don't find any except the campus is beautiful. Also not all teams are as bad so it depends on the team you are joining.

Cons

Management in India. They will one day ruin such a nice company. The managers think their job is to take orders from above and distribute work to the people below. No need to pay such high salaries to people who don't even know the meaning of management. The morale amongst team is very very low. Senior management should take notice and try to improve.

Pros

The top 3 reasons to work @ Amdocs: 1. The ability to easily travel the world, and relocate to other countries. I started with Amdocs in South East Asia, moved with them to Europe for a few years, and now in the US. There is no friction to relocate to another country, if there is a position available that suits your skills. There is a knowledgeable relocation department that organizes visas, moves, etc. 2. If you're into IT, and specifically, enterprise software, you will face some of the most complex challenges that exist in this space. End to end implementations that span every touch point of the customer experience: sales, ordering, customer relationship management, billing, service management, OSS, activation & provisioning, service assurance, fulfillment; literally 1000's of business processes, spanning multiple sub-verticals: wireless, wireline, IPTV, Content, Broadband, Cable, Satellite, High Tech Manufacturing. This is a place where you can make communications YOUR area of expertise. End to end. 3. Diversity of culture Amdocs has over 17500 employees, spread across the world (over 52 countries). There are over 9 development centers, in the US, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, literally everywhere. We have customers all over the globe, and all of them are tier 1-2 service providers. You get to interact with ton s of people with a wide background, from our colleagues at Longshine in China, to our friends down in Australia, etc. This is truly an international environment, with business running 24/7 spanning all timezones.

Cons

3 downsides of working @ Amdocs 1. If you work in the product management or marketing fields, then beware: one look at the Annual Report (which I recommend you download and read if you're considering a job here) will tell you that we are a very service centric company. Even though we are pushing hard to get our product heritage to market, a vast majority of our revenue comes from customized solutions, and managed services deals. This makes it very difficult to effectively manage your product in such a service centric environment. Because Amdocs has a track record of always completing a project (Amdocs does most of its implementations), this can de-stabilize product roadmap activities as R&D resources get recommitted to making our customers complex implementations successful. You will have to be able to juggle these priorities, as firedrills will happen. On the other hand, we are known for our successful implementations (unlike an infamous competitor of ours... ;0) 2. Bi-Polarization A large part of Amdocs' senior management team is based in Israel. This creates almost a nucleus of managerial power. This also sometimes creates a sense of disconnect with the heart of the organization. This can affect some more than others. I suspect that our colleagues based in Australia, India, or South Africa, or even LATAM feel this more than the European and North American offices. You will have to be prepared to travel frequently to Israel to keep your visibility going, and make sure that you can gain traction with your market and product initiatives. The managerial responsibilities are globalizing gradually, so there is signs of improvement here.
