Pros

Really good people work here. The management is made of smart and qualified people. Financial stability since it's backed by Amazon Great technology and great place to learn new skills, fast. Gateway to better jobs within Amazon Career opportunities Good salary Great induction program for new employees ("The orange week").

Cons

Absolutely no work/life balance. You are always on: pager, skype, you name it. Benefits are not on par with the rest of the industry. The 401k is minimal. There's no bonus structure. Considering that Kiva is mostly a SW company, its benchmark for compensation should be the other companies in the SW industry. There was some expectation that once Amazon had acquired the company they would have improved but that did not happen. Amazon increased the workload, introduced bureaucracy and imposed security constraints that crippled what once was a very nimble start-up. The performance review which is not bound to a bonus structure. It is used as a tool to threaten employees and coerce them to work even harder, under the threat of termination.

Pros

The technology is cool. There are some very smart engineers there. It looks good to have Amazon on your resume.

Cons

Extremely toxic culture from middle and upper management. Promotion is extremely subjective. I was offered a 0% raise after being give an "exceeds expectations" perf review. I was only offered a raise (of 30%, I was severely underpaid) after I threatened to leave and lined up another offer. I was ultimately offered a 60% raise to stay and turned it down. I was treated like dirt. The turnover rate was over 75% for my team in 2 years. For a lot of the org it is this way. A lot of upper management hired their friends rather than qualified individuals for very high up positions. I was used and used until I couldn't take it anymore. I would never work here again, and I contemplated not paying back my sign on bonus due to misleading hiring practices and borderline harassment treatment by management. I can confidently say this company has huge turnover for good reason.

Pros

Interesting product, fulfillment centers with Kiva product works amazingly well.

Cons

Middle management suffers from making decisions. Just do an internet search on "Amazon PIP policies" and you'll get a good idea of what goes on there.
