After a number of years, the pressure I experienced and saw to "raise the bar" through attrition just became too much. There are indeed quotas for turnover and there is indeed pressure for you to meet that quota. The rhetoric for "raising the bar" sounds great, but the implementation frankly sickened me. This is especially troubling when you realize that as a manager your ability to meet the goals through attrition is part of what makes you "promotable". For me, I finally couldn't stomach being pressured to go through the PIP process with members of my teams that I honestly thought were doing well. If you can do this and sleep at night, I would say you are good to go at Amazon.
