Pros

-The LDP does provide a strong community of young people in a large company. You can reach out to former LDPs easily. -It provides a great way to reach out to senior leaders that don't seem accessible.

Cons

-My main concern with the program is the variability in the quality of experiences. As you read these reviews please be aware the everyone's LDP experience is different because we are in different rotations and different managers. One person may struggle with having no work, while another person has multiple tasks, projects, and deliverables starting day one. Beyond this variability in work load, different people fit better in different areas and you can be stuck doing tons of work you dread or be blessed to be doing tons of challenging and fulfilling work. -Yes, the LDP involves rotations in 3 different business areas, but that does not mean you will be interested in the available rotations. If you have an idea of what you want to do, I would hesitate to recommend the program. Why? Because you can end up in a rotation that does not provide experience in an area that you find interesting. - Although the rotations last 1 year, compared to 6-9 months at other companies, this means that if you do not like the rotation you are stuck spinning your wheels for a year, just as it means that if you like your rotation you still have to leave at the end. -Additionally, although a year sounds like a long time for a rotation, it means relatively little in a work environment where people have been in the same area for 15+ years.

Pros

Allstate's LDP program does a really great job on networking you with leaders all over the company. Your final interview will be with a senior leader which gives you access to advice from some of the best at Allstate. For the most part, every leader and employee that I have encountered here at Allstate has been very friendly and willing to help LDPs learn and grown in the company and individual roles. As an LDP, you will get special opportunities that regular employees don't get which includes special access to certain leaders. For individuals that want to branch outside of their college majors, the LDP program is a great way to do that as it allows you to work in three different areas of responsibility over the course of three years and work experience is not required to work in different departments. In fact, they encourage you to work in departments that you don't have experience with in order to help you grow. I highly recommend this programs. It will definitely open up doors for me after the program.

Cons

The LDP program is three years long and requires you to be at home office in Northbrook, IL for your first and third year. The second year you may choose to go to a field office. You also must rotate every year so even though you might like your current rotation and want to stay, you have to rotate to a new rotation.

Pros

The Leadership Development Program is a great way to gain experience at an accelerated pace. Over the past few years I have been able to lead teams, network with senior leaders and gain access to many opportunities that would be readily available to someone outside of the program. The program team is amazing and everyone has been extremely helpful and supportive.

Cons

The only issue is the commute if you choose to live in Chicago.
