Pros

The office managed to maintain a very friendly, inclusive environment. People of all walks of life were welcomed. Management was extremely flexible with your needs. The benefits were highly competitive and the time off was excellent compared to other employers.

Cons

There was a nearly unmanageable amount of incoming claims. It felt like if you were treading water to get by with no relief in sight. The pay is lower than the competition and there are minimal advancement opportunities.

Pros

Location if you live on Long Island. If you are a woman who likes to shop, will be embraced by all woman leadership team. Excellent opportunity for deaf claim employees (once you start answering the phones there, you will know what I mean). Great place for advancement if you can learn/parrot company slogans and are willing to serve on worthless employee councils. Third floor claim office has the best holiday luncheons - 2 six foot heros, 1 bottle of soda, bring your own napkins. Best bathrooms on Long Island, though - you'll need them.

Cons

Good training program initially; wait until they assign new files, start the phone calls as well as weekend, nights and holiday duty. Sane people only make it one year. Similar work expectancy as the Red shirt security people in any Star Trek episode - rarely do they make it past one episode. Similar to CIA waterboard interrogation.

Pros

My immediate manager and several managers I have worked with and for are excellent. Senior leadership is generally very good and the work is enjoyable. The company feels like a company that is built on helping people in a time of crisis or loss. The total package of pay, benefits, time off, work/life balance, and company strength and values is tough to beat. I have worked in and for several different areas. I know not all are perfect, but I can think of several departments where I would be more than happy to spend a career.

Cons

I don't have a lot to complain about. It's a big place so it can seem like your work is removed from the end goal at times. If you're looking for fast paced and the highest possible pay, this probably won't be your first choice. But if you're looking for pretty much any other workplace benefits in a salaried role, Allstate should be toward the top of your list.
