Pros

Your co-workers are for the most part really nice folks Family Day is a very nice event pension plus 401(k)

Cons

Senior management has lost sight of the things that made Allstate a great company Senior leadership has no long-term focus -- there is no plan for a future further out than 6 months to a year -- the only time in the last 10 years that they had a longer term (3 year) vision (Increase Customer Loyalty to become #3 in 3 years), they abandoned it after about 20 months when it was clear they would not make their goal. Then instead of analyzing the failure and learning from that experience, the program was never broached again The organization is Reactive instead of Proactive Changes are made without thought as to what the measure of success should be and how to measure that success; as result, these changes are tossed as soon as someone comes up with something newer Too much outsourcing; the wrong outsourcing partners are chosen or the partners are not given time and resources to come up to speed and to train their personnel Essential Business and Technological knowledge has been deliberately jettisoned in the interest of constantly cutting costs Mediocre employees, who tend to keep their mouths shut, have been retained while excellent, highly-knowledgeable and motivated employees, who tend to be more critical of bad decisions, have been laid off or driven out Allstate Technology leadership simply defers to non-technical leadership without advising them intelligently

Pros

The benefits vacation time and some decent friends you will make on the way

Cons

Incompetent managers, AVP and VP's more concerned with our department putting on a skit about positions...Yeah thats right a skit. Its impossible to get promoted or move up unless your a favorite. Criticized for being quiet, thats because I was working. After 2 years I could not take the culture anymore and quit during the height of the recession. I was micro managed for no reason even though I did quality work.
