Pros

Large company with opportunity to move around. Company seeks to develop through training and job transfers. Company does lean into being a good corporate citizen and doing right by policyholders.

Cons

Company is trying to transform but struggles to get out of its own way So much red tape and 'work' through power points. Executives out of touch with their impact and no one challenges asks or comments, which leads to frequent fire drills or change of direction based on random comments. Risk Management department is not respected by the business and can't get traction. There are way too many VPs and Directors to form clear objectives. Responsibilities change among management regularly (due to turnover, change of responsibilities, development). This leads to change of direction every 6-9 months. Lots of rounds of layoffs and consistent threat of more. Systems are antiquated. Company has been losing market share for years. Agents don't like company. Rates and products are not competitive. Perceived brand advantage of service will be challenged as many claims and service functions shift offshore. Outside leaders don't last long. Allstate says they want to change and modernize, but Allstaters can't handle changes. High number of leaders coming into organization end up leaving and of course it was their problem, not Allstate's environment. Allstate nice - nice to your face and not behind your back - very passive aggressive.

Pros

Most jobs are fully remote and work life balance is pretty good. This is a great job if you just want to chill. You don't really get rewarded for going above and beyond (besides some 'applause points' which is $5 per applause). If you do get promoted, it means a lot more work for not that much extra pay. If you do want more money, the trick is to find a new job within the company every 12 months or less if you can. If you don't, you'll notice 2 years go by and all of a sudden your pay is wayyy lower than market average. The good news is that they encourage moving to different departments so it isn't looked down upon. I really don't know why companies don't reward employees who get really good at a particular role, but this is one of those companies. Even though the pay is crap, the benefits are good. Just this year (2023) they increased parental leave to 6 weeks. Everyone gets 4 weeks of PTO, 401K match is just okay, everyone gets a $80/month internet deposit in addition to their paychecks so essentially an extra $960 per year. Other benefits like this are the reason people stay longer than they should.

Cons

The pay is pretty low, dont expect more than 3% a year for cost of living raises. And if you get promoted, don't expect more than 10%...7% is more standard. Way too many managers. Often hear that the company is top heavy. Most teams have 1:1 or 1:2 managers per team. Might be 5 managers and senior managers and 7 individual contributors.

Bad company

Pros

Remote work is an option. Good PTO days. Not much else to write here,

Cons

There is a high employee turnover rate. Everybody is leaving including managers and upper management because of bad management low pays and low raises. I wouldn’t recommend to join to a friend. 401k contribution comes with a 2 years vesting period, must be a way to keep people in the company for some time if they can. One of the worst platform management I have seen. Platform teams don’t even aware of each other’s plans and changes. They don’t communicate the changes with the product teams. Platform is very limiting and poorly designed.
