Pros

The salary is good and the location is excellent, right at the Fribourg train station There is a gym and yoga courses in the premises. 5 weeks vacation. But standard in Switzerland The company is a division of Novartis, which offers potential opportunities of advancement (if given the opportunity) The company has very good and interesting products related to eyecare.

Cons

People are burned out and dissatisfied as they have so much work to do and not enough people to do it. There is also a long time reputation for constant layoffs. The training offered to employees is difficult to obtain, and the company doesn't seem to want to invest in their people, although they keep stating they do just to be in compliance with their own policies.. Line and upper managers are constantly being replaced. There is no job stability due to constant changes going on. As it is a division of Novartis, it has also become very bureaucratic.. People are so immersed on their work that they loose perspective of what the company is all about.

Pros

Location is great if you live in Fort Worth or Burleson. Cafeteria and fitness center are wonderful. Campus is kept clean. If you work for Alcon, you can have confidence that the products are high quality and worth standing by.

Cons

Where to start. I was told when I became pregnant that I needed to choose whether I wanted a baby or a career at Alcon, because you can't have a family and be successful there. There is vertually no training in the finance department, which leaves room for costly mistakes that management is ok with covering up. A professional audit would reveal these mistakes. The environment is extremely unprofessional and unethical. Racial and sexual slurs are made constantly, and gossip is a daily event. If you work in finance, prepare to be underpaid and overworked, unless you are one of the top few employees. If that is you, you will work ridiculous hours while they throw money at you to convince you to stay there, even though you are completely miserable and never see your family. Raises are a joke. While the company tries to tell you that they cannot afford raises over 2%, know that they are giving $25,000 bonuses to everyone above you, at a minimum.

Pros

Beautiful campus Currently good medical plan, God knows when it will be changed as Novartis has acquired Alcon Currently good retirement plan, God knows when it will be changed as Novartis has acquired Alcon

Cons

- Need to have 360 perfromance review. Poor leadership in Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse group. Managment needs to show how to motivate, trust and respect their own employees instead of hiring consultants in their line management from outside who don't have real industry experience and also inturn hire their friends. - Look at the turn over rate of even contractors who come and go in a short period. Does anyone checks in HR the line manager and his tram is capable of hiring right contractor. - Management should stop hiring line management who are their ponies and don't have their own say how to execute their functinal. - Management has favorites who they promote. One thing is clear that RELATIONSHIP counts in the this company and group. (Have good relationship with your manager/director and abuse anyone in the organization.)
