Pros

Employees and medical staff are generally wonderful. Facilities are nice. The concept of a Christian based hospital is also a great thing and most of the staff are generally faith filled people who care and serve.

Cons

Upper and middle Management is stuffy, corporate, rigid, which is contrary to what they claim is their driving force. If you ever leave your job, and try to get a different position, chances are you will never get re-hired, you will be looked at like a traitor for ever leaving. They are money driven, and do not pay employees what they are worth in the non-clinical positions. Too many times I saw staff (clinical and non) getting hours cut at the expense of the care of patients. Too many outbreaks of MRSA and that is a real risk to consider, in addition to the normal risks of other infectious diseases that you will be exposed to which is to be expected in any hospital. There are natural cures for MRSA, yet FH will not even consider an alternative perspective. They should look out of the box and not be beholding to the pharmaceutical industry in this case.

Pros

I've been around healthcare IT for a long time and most hospitals are very backward technologically. HITECH is changing that, but FH recognized that earlier and invested in HIT heavily. They do pay well and seldom fire anyone. Layoffs are unheard of. Recently got "Best Hospital in Florida" from US News, "Most Wired", and rated as an excellent place to work by Gallup.

Cons

It is Seventh Day Adventist and that permeates the culture. If you are anti-religious you won't like the constant messages of "Healing ministry of Christ". That being said, I work with atheists, Jews, and Muslims who have been there many years. They talk religion a lot but nothing is forced on you. There's a dress code - khakis and polo shirts, no jeans or uncollared shirts. Though the tech is very good for a hospital, if you come from another industry you may find it a little backward.

Pros

Parking is not a problem on night shift. Good night shift differential.

Cons

I work in the Children's Hospital, and there is not much input from staff before decisions are made. MD/RN relationship is not that great, a lot of them are rude, and don't take the time to explain what and why they do things so that everyone continues to learn. Not a teaching hospital. Food is terrible and overpriced.
