Pros

The hours can be manageable. You can definitely work 8-5 with a few overtime days depending on the season. You can take a lunch hour. There is a lot of background training at the beginning. Travel is encouraged for building relationships. My personal department has independence and isn't micro managed

Cons

The atmosphere is very corporate. Business attire with casual Fridays. There are very strict about policies especially regarding PTO. You aren't eligible for sick time until you have worked 6 months. Bereavement time off is only for immediate family. While traveling there is no way to contact family except on your own dime. There are only 5 holidays in the year. Vacation time is based on pay not years worked. At a managers position there are only 2 weeks of vacation time, the same as an entry level position. Since KKR purchased there has been a very blaming atmosphere and people let go. Everything has to be justified to KKR. For a sports and outdoor company there are no athletic perks ( gym membership, company sports teams, tickets, etc.). The technology is outdated. Some things are being upgraded but design is done on old PCs. There is no budget to increase the manpower where needed. There is A LOT of turnover right now.

Pros

The discounts and the products. Locations.

Cons

-Bend over backwards for the customer, but won't even give you a pat on the back. -Only get feedback for what they think is wrong. -Only about money for the company. -No real chance of promotion. Work your way up to where others in the store see you are the reason for keeping your department in good shape, but management won't even call you a supervisor. -No chance to talk to corporate about the merch and what is selling. They think a computer screen gives you all the info.

Pros

Great people to work with on the associate level, the team leads are helpful when they are allowed to help.

Cons

Worst managers of all time. Most of the time 1 out of 4 managers there actually care about the people they work with other wise they are there to make their money and not get in trouble by corporate or the store director. I had one manager throw his employees under the bus so many times for his mistakes so that his team would take the blow and not him. also there is no point in store managers. Store director will just come by and tell you to re do it another way or do it his way. Also there is NO communication between director<managers<team leads<associates so nothing is set how the merchandise guide lines say. And don't even think about getting promoted. I started when the store opened i put everything in the store and have been there for close to 2 years, i have applied for team lead jobs number of times and every time they hire somebody outside of the store or somebody with no academy experience.
