Not many - I wasn't there long before leaving.

Cons

Management and the lack of HR support when reporting issues. Management played favorites and kept the obvious knowledgeable employees from advancing due to grudges. Promotions were based strictly on salary caps - if it was review time and you weren't going to get a raise because of a salary cap, you got a promotion so that a raise could be given. These were mostly based on time with the company, NOT merit.

Pros

Overall laid back atmosphere, though like with most retailers, this varies greatly from store to store. Academy is a fast growing sporting goods retailer, so there are a multitude of new opportunities for career advancement popping up every year. They offer many leadership tiers, so it is easy to find a position that will challenge your growth, but not let you get in above your head.

Cons

As with many fast growing companies, there are times were the company's organization seems lacking and changes in products/services and policies can happen often. Company training can leave plenty to be desired, though all managers I have known fill in all of the gaps well and help you grow professionally. Compensation, especially at high leadership levels is generally lower than competitors.

Pros

Friendly, stress free work environment. Good benefits and tremendous growth opportunities. Top leadership has good vision and growth strategies. Training platform is thorough and makes new associates comfortable starting with a new company.

Cons

Going through a lot of changes from IT to management, all for the better I hope. Top down and lateral communication could use some work.
