AMS is all about who you know. I was actually told this by a manager who was promoted into management in under a year. Internal promotion is virtually non-existent unless you're "in" Expectations are sky high and pay scales vary grossly. Having received an internal current opportunities email (which was later recalled) showing what salaries would be paid for roles I was shocked.
Managers, of which you'll have a lot, are in general well meaning but inconsistent and dont present information given to them by the recruiters on the ground but what the senior management team expect.
You exit feeling used by this company, they tend to chew people up and spit them out, turnover is a recognised problem but only the NFI (net fee income) matters.
