Pros

Lots of hours when there is work (summer). Great place to let a career go nowhere. Overly concerned with safety, they won't even allow Band-Aids in the lab, you have to see a "First-Aider" and fill out a report. I guess that's better than having no concern for safety, but not much.

Cons

Short hours during winter, forced vacations. Management is incompetent - one manager yelled at some techs for something that turned out to not be their fault, NOTHING happened to the manager. ALL management is chosen from the ranks of long-time employees, no new blood ever. This leads to a very stagnant company culture. Poor business plans cause the company to miss budget goals quarter after quarter then the company tries to recover losses with low pay, not giving raises, and forcing people to take vacation and/or work short hours (except for management, of course). Professionals should not be treated like that.

Pros

If you need a job, and they will give you one, well that might be as good as it gets. Benefits aren't bad. They do have a small 401k contribution.

Cons

This is a soulless international corporation growing in North America via acquisitions. They are trying to become the lowest cost producer of environmental testing. That means they want to pay you squat, and keep you there as long as they can. If you are fresh out of college, get a couple of years experience and then go make real money somewhere else. The HR department is greatly behind the eight ball because they have grown too fast. The company focuses on customer satisfaction, but doesn't care for their workforce satisfaction. They don't realize you can't have one without the other.
