Pros

If you are motivated enough you can learn anything. Assuming you want experience on instruments so old there are no replacement parts. Also the people are good people even if they are stressed to their breaking point 9 months out of the year.

Cons

Corporate only cares about the bottom line. Which is funny because they waste so much money retraining people they can't keep because they don't pay them enough, and expect them to work in a highly stressful and often unsafe environment. They also refuse to buy new instruments while employees waste days or weeks trying to fix instruments that manufacturers will not cover because they are so old they expect you to have bought a newer model back in the 90's.

We do appreciate your feedback. At ALS, it is important to us that employees have a positive work experience and are treated in a fair and respectful manner. To maintain this environment, we have many programs and policies in place such as GlobalSay (our global engagement survey), exit surveys and employee engagement committees as well as training initiative on Respectful Behaviour at work. Over the years we have received feedback from thousands of employees. While we may not get it right 100% of the time at 100% of our locations, our employees have told us that we are doing a good job overall and have also provided us with additional feedback, which we have used to make further improvements to our workplaces. It is unfortunate that your experience was not aligned with the culture we have established at ALS.

- Many opportunities to do training, provided that you ask for it - Great management - Work can be interesting, as long as you ask for training.

Cons

- Dreadful salary for the stress and pressure that the job involves. - Stressful - Some staff are bias - Work can be very repetitive

Pros

I have worked for almost 6 years with ALS now and have seen my journey through entry level laboratory analyst to a senior management role. This obviously happened because the company promotes internal talent, develops them and backs them with opportunities if people are deserving. Building internal talent pool is taken very seriously within the Geochemistry division. Very innovative culture, always striving to do better which is infectious at all levels of hierarchy. Remuneration is very competitive compared to competitors and region. Collaboration amongst hub laboratories is excellent which not only makes the division better but presents great opportunities for employees to relocate, gain experience and exposure for their career development. As long as you are ready to prove your worth the company supports and backs you. I have also had the opportunity of working for a competitor and its literally incomparable.

Cons

No workplace is perfect and issues are everywhere but its the extent of those issues and whether anyone is doing anything to resolve them is what matters. Within ALS, I feel the effort to do better is always ongoing for the people and for the business
