Pros

Fridays off, good benefits. Mission is great.

Cons

Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. There is a complete disregard for well being of employees. Your professional opinions will not be valued there. Nepotism is rampant-- people are often hired who have no business being there as a result of their relationship to administration. Women are discriminated against and so are younger employees. The president is a very difficult person to work with. He has his favorites-- only those people can expect to get anything done. His management style is almost dictatorial. He says he recognizes the organization is troubled, but is always traveling. He's never there enough time to effect any changes. There is a lack of vision and direction for the entire organization. There is very low morale among employees. Administration tries to patch things up with company picnics or other events that no one willingly attends. Employees are definitely afraid for their jobs. There are no safe places to express problems you're having with other employees. The President has even threatened to fire people for talking to HR or writing letters of complaint. There are plenty other NGOs to work for. Save yourself the emotional distress and your professional dignity. Don't work there.

Pros

The staff are passionate about the mission, there's great opportunity to take on responsibility early in your career and acquire a broad range of experience in a short time. Global network means that there's a lot of opportunity to experience international development in a number of different contexts. Flexi-time and teleworking offers considerable flexibility.

Cons

Lack of leadership is the root cause of most of the organization's problems, which manifest themselves as lack of strategic direction, low staff morale, declining revenue of government funding, declining reputation among peer organizations.
