Mostly based on the experience and from the resume. Hiring managers does validate the cultural fitness.
I selected the declined offer option as I terminated the process before wasting my time with this dangling carrot trickery.
I liked this as it allowed me to answer the questions from a more personal perspective rather than a more formulated way like the STAR approach. After the initial phone conversation which involved both specific and general questions, but was really more of a chat, I was asked to attend a face to face interview. This followed in a similar vain in that it was relaxed but detailed around my experience. Both interviewers were warm and welcoming and I felt we were engaged in a good conversation around the aspects of the role and the company in general. In the first interview they did advise that, should I be successful, Starling's process was to have a second interview with more senior managers. After successfully negotiating the second interview, which was a more in depth discussion about my suitability for the role and the company in general, I was pleasantly surprised to be offered a better position than what I applied for.
Questions are mainly based on candidate's previous experience and focused on overall outcomes of candidate's actions in the given situation. No brain teasers or any tricky question. Not much attention is paid to the info contained in the CV but the focus is rather on candidate's actions/reactions and the results he/she was able to deliver.
