Let me share the story with you all,
ONE OF THE WORST RACIST/unprofessional/MEAN statement an interviewer could every use within first 2 mins of the interview:
The moment we joined the call,
he said "I can hear some background voice, what's that?"
I said "it must be because of fan. Do you want me to turn it off?"
He said "Yes, please do that and manage until this call ends."
WOW!! Being an Asian and Indian I felt really disrespected because definitely he was white.
Nobody has the right to say this to any candidate or a colleague for that matter. First round of calls are meant to know each other as a person and he was so rude that he wanted someone to sit for this call with a turned off ceiling fan (that too, when the mercury was around 50degrees)
Okay, let's forget that he might did it unintentionally. But he could have asked during the call, "hey I hope you are comfortable or I am sorry that coz of me you are suffering."
However there is way we communicate and can get things done. The professional way of asking that would be "I can hear some background voice, is it possible to shift to a quieter place so that we can hear ech other better?"
That statement showed what kind of a team lead he would be or could have been. I still don't know how to comprehend that behavior of his. All I concluded is such people leave a different kind of mark, and I will definitely be thinking twice before applying at any MNC again.
