Interview
First there is a background check and qualification check to make sure you are qualified for the job. Next, you must pass a simple phone screening done by HR. Then, you must take and pass a supervisory assessment. Next, there is a small group interview and those that pass this initial interview will be asked to come back for a second interview. This is when the final decision is made. The initial waiting time after you apply to when the interview process starts seems long but once it starts it goes very quickly.
The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Verizon in Apr 2009
Interview
The interview was focused on answering personal and career related job experience by answering questions in the following format: "Situation, Task, Action, Result" (STAR format). As you answer questions, your two interviewers are hard at work, scribbling down your every word, and the room is silent to the point that you could hear a pin drop. Then they tell you that there are a lot of other candidates and they will be in contact with you if you are what they are looking for.

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Verizon in Apr 2010
Interview
Standardized questions given to all applicants. Two interviewers who were actually quite pleasant and not nerve racking. The whole interview process took only about one half hour and was not much of an ordeal at all. My results (pass/fail) were e-mailed to me within a couple of days. Preceding this I had taken a couple of skills/knowledge tests at a different location, also with only a pass/fail system of scoring.
