I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Unity (Dublín, Dublín) in Sep 2020
Interview
I was contacted by Unity (initially through LinkedIn) and subsequently applied. From the first call, HR were very clear about what the overall process would look like as well as what to expect for the next steps. They also talked about the company itself and the kind of ways they’re adapting to hiring and working due to Covid. I really appreciated getting all this info upfront and striked me as a confident and assured approach.
After an initial call with HR I had calls with a senior manager, a line manager, a presentation followed by Q+A, two design leads across the company and then a joint call with two managers (all video calls). The calls were largely typical questions for the role. They were thorough but friendly and I appreciated that they also asked more nuanced questions about wider past experience and skills. They also were very open to talking to me about the role and company and always left lots of time for me to ask questions.
At each stage a HR representative was there for any questions I had, this was always a consistent person and an intro was given for any other HR rep I encountered. I found this really helpful as it couldn’t have been easier for me to be informed about the next steps as everything was so well planned out from the start. My experience of the hiring process overall is that it was quite quick and efficient. Each stage progressed quickly to the next and I really couldn’t fault it, they’ve clearly honed an efficient and respectful hiring process.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Montreal, QC) in Nov 2020
Interview
The process took around a month and included 6 interviews. I met an HR recruiter, the team lead, then developers and managers from the team. The final round was composed of 3 interviews. One technical (whiteboard style), one on architecture and one with various questions from behavioral to technical.
I felt that the process was very long, but gave me many opportunities to ask questions about the team, the projects and the company. The people I talked with were great, and it made me want to join the company even more.
Unity has the best HR team that I’ve ever worked with. I can honestly say that the entire process went by so seamlessly as they were not only super responsive but they always provided updates/communication to set up expectations for myself so I was never left in suspense. Each round of interviews felt more like a lovely conversation with quality people as they all had the tone of positive casual conversation yet were extremely productive.
Overall the entire process took 4+ weeks and the breakdown of the process is as follows: 1.) Recruiter phone screen 2.) Take home case study question 3.) Hiring manager interview 4.) On-site interview with several team members 5.) Final interview with leadership member from another team
