I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Teach for America (Eugene, OR) in Oct 2012
Interview
The application process is very extensive. The first step is to submit an online application, which includes biographical information, resume, and an essay explaining why you wish to join TFA. The next step is a phone interview. If you make it past the phone interview, you are invited to the final interview. At the final interview you prepare a 5 minute lesson (there is a strict time limit), participate in a group discussion, and attend a 30-45 minute one-on-one interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The most difficult part of the one-on-one interview was the role-playing scenario. The goal of the scenario is for you to demonstrate your communication abilities and your ability to foresee potential difficulties.
I applied last year and got rejected after the final interview. I came back this year, went through the entire process again and still got rejected. I followed every single tip you can find about doing well in a TFA interview. Don't be fooled like I was. It doesn't matter how passionate you are for teaching in underserved communities. They don't care; they are looking for people they can mold into potential government/public officials who will push through legislature conducive to their organization's idealogies. If you want to get through, go through the interview in a business-like manner with the mindset of a politician.

Question 1
What have you been doing since last year's interview to serve low-income children?
What made you realize you wanted to teach?
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Teach for America
Interview
Getting through the first rounds of the interview process are strictly resume-based. You want to include any accomplishments from college in which you demonstrated your ability to persuade, impact, change, and especially lead a group. Especially for the first round, since they are basing their judgement only on your resume. For the second round, you want to be prepared for interview questions that demonstrate your ability to overcome adversity, show good judgement, demonstrate how you can work with others to achieve a greater purpose. I found it extremely helpful to read their website a zillion times in order to demonstrate the aspects of my personality and character that were most in line with their organizations goal (closing the achievement gap).
