A recruiter reached out to me regarding a position that was not posted on any job boards. Later found out that the job posting was hidden because the person in the position currently was being let go. Discussion with the recruiter went well but once I got to the hiring manager, things changed. He was very arrogant and kept praising himself in how good he is. We went thru my resume which was a perfect fit for the role. When I said I was happy with the job as described, he said that was disappointing because he wants someone with drive that ultimately wants to take over his position. He said he has no intention on being in his role long term (currently only 8 months) and the new hire should be aggressive in wanting that promotion. I thought this was very odd and a bit unprofessional to have that type of conversation in an initial interview. "Hire me, but tell me when I will get promoted?" He then said he needed to enter my answers into his magical database to determine if I was a good fit. You are such an expert, so ambitious and aggressive but you need a computer to tell you if I answered your questions properly? I was then told I would hear back no matter what within 2 days being that he believes in a positive culture. Ok, fast forward almost 2 weeks later and I reached out to the recruiter to say how disappointing the process was. I was then told they had gone with another candidate....LOL No tears shed on this one!
