I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Stantec (High Wycombe, England) in Jul 2017
Interview
The arrangement of the interview process was very quick and efficient. I was interviewed by a process/technical discipline manager and a principle process engineer. I was told before the interview that it would be the standard competency based questions.
I was a little nervous before the interview. I prepared as much as possible research the water industry past and future as well as the company's UK portfolio and international projects. The interview process was very relaxed and light. I was about what water experience I did have. We touched on my CV. The majority of the interview was based around the water industry, its current and future challenges. I was asked about my working style, managing teams, to see if I was a cultural fit. I was asked about how far with my chartered status I was. As with most EPC's, if you are chartered, they can hire/charge you out to a client at a much more favourable rate as well as meeting legal/insurance requirements. I was asked about salary expectations for which I mentioned a figure I would be happy with. I was told that was too high for someone without pure water industry experience and not chartered despite 10 years experience as a process engineer.
The interviewers were relaxed and reassuring and feeling that it went well, I was shown around the building. I was asked about location. After that I asked how the interview went.
I was told HR would get back to me within one week. 8 days passed with no contact. I emailed and was told that the interview went well and they were in the process of putting together an offer. The offer took 2 weeks to complete as it need UK technical director approval. Once approved, it had to be questioned again.
The overall offer was at the very bottom of the scale and not a reflection of what I felt was a fair offer despite their benchmarking exercising. I tried to negotiate my offer but to no avail. I was told they couldn't offer me anything more on my overall package including salary and holidays (23 days).
