I applied online, had a group interview along with people applying for different positions. I was the only one applying for management and the questions asked were very general and easy, mostly about customer service and your personality.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Sephora (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2015
Interview
Phone conversation with recruiter, then phone conversation with manager. I did not hear anything back for about a month, then they suddenly needed someone right away. One in person interview, very easy going. Its not cosmetics experience they are looking for, or even retail, though that of course helps. More about your core competencies.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Sephora (Brooklyn, NY)
Interview
I applied online to the Sephora Brooklyn site. I had received a call for a group interview. The group interview lasted about 45 minutes where we went in a circle introducing ourselves and answered about two questions. They were focused on customer service . I then got a second interview for a one on one which last about 45 minutes as well. The color lead asked me questions about my current job, education and my view on meeting customer needs. Two weeks later I received a call for a third interview with the store director. Each interview I went to the the interviewer was late which is unfortunate because it didn't feel as professional as it should have been. We were in a crowded area with many distractions and interruptions. My third interview with the store director was the worst one. She had focused on my education which was social work and ask how my parents would be okay with me working at sephora instead of social work. Which was odd because I have the experience in cosmetics both service and operations. She then told me that I didn't have enough experience applying makeup to people after I told her I also freelanced for a couple of years. She told me I would start as a cashier and work my way from there. She had another man come in the cash wrap lead and he interviewed. After he left she came back in and told me they would do a reference check and would be doing that next week even though they would be going out of town. Two weeks later I received an email that they couldn't get in contact with my references and they I could give some more. Which I did. But when I spoke to my original reference they never received a call. Which was odd. Two months later I haven't heard anything from them which was odd since they were doing a reference check. I debated calling since no one even received a call from them. But decided against due to the negative experience I had with the company. It was an extremely long process and a bit stressful. I received an email after three months of the initial interview saying I didn't get the job. I figured I didn't. It just feels as I wasted my time. Beauty is my passion. And there are other places to work then just sephora. I am glad for this experience. Even though I did not get a job offer.
