I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at River Island (Birmingham, Inglaterra) in May 2019
Interview
Online until face to face interview.
The email confirming my interview stated that I had to bring proof of right to work in the UK otherwise I would not be interviewed. It also said that it should last no longer than 2 hours and that I should familiarise myself with what they had in store.
When I arrived the staff didn't know there was an interview that day so I waited for about 15 minutes to be seen. This was alright, I just thought that there was an issue with the online communication.
However whole interview was 15 mins and awkward to be honest. The interviewer asked me questions from a sheet of paper and wrote my answers down, it just felt very detached and rushed. After that it was done. I personally did not perform well in the interview but the lack of interest was kind of awkward.
They never asked to see my proof of right to work in the UK which made me think that they didn't intend to hire me anyway.
The process took 2 days. I interviewed at River Island (Londres, Inglaterra)
Interview
I received an email to do a 'predictive index' test and was then invited to their head office for a screening interview with their recruiters.
The recruiters were very friendly, respectful and professional throughout the entire process - a number of competency-based questions were asked and I was later invited for a formal interview with the hiring manager.
The hiring manager rocked up an hour late in a rather foul mood saying that he only had 30 minutes to spare - fair enough! I understand the demands of senior management and have a lot of empathy for them.
He then proceeded to ask questions in a fairly hostile and rapid-fire way and I caught him on a couple of occasions trying to suppress a yawn. In addition, there was the odd eyeball roll and sigh, which gave me the impression that he had absolutely no interest in being there.
Initially, I assumed that he was just having a really bad day, but after careful consideration, I felt extremely disappointed and disrespected, but relieved for dodging a MAJOR bullet! Who would want to work for someone who can't show even the most basic respect or common decency towards someone who has invested hours of their time applying, commuting and waiting around for them only to experience such an extreme level of hostility and negativity?
Hiring managers are representatives of the business and the chances of me walking into a River Island store now stands at ZERO!!! Candidates aren't merely cannon fodder - they are customers too, so by being rude to your candidates, you are sabotaging your brand!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1. Run through your CV
2. How do you handle difficult situations or people (I had first hand experience in the interview)
I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at River Island (Dublín, Dublín) in Apr 2019
Interview
I handed my cv in person for the position and got a phone call a few days later asking me to come in for an interview the following week.
There was no group interviews just a one to one interview with the manager. She asked me my availability then moved on to the interview questions. The whole thing lasted about 7 minutes and was quite straightforward.
