First I applied online, about two days later I received an email and a text inviting me to a recruitment event in a weeks time. At the event there was probably about 15-20 candidates and you are greeted and interviewed by some of the senior members of staff from the store. The atmosphere is very relaxed, we were all chatting and having a laugh.
During the interview we had to complete 4 tasks:
The first one was standing in front of the group, introduce yourself and talk briefly about something you are passionate about.
Then in groups of approximately 6, we were given a sheet of paper with 3 discussion topics on - something along the lines of 1. How would we use our knowledge of fashion in the role. 2. How can we provide good customer service. 3, What excites us most about working for River Island. A member of staff sits with your group and assesses you as the group discusses the topics.
We then each had to stand at the front and talk through the outfit we were wearing, discussing what trends or celebrities we are inspired by, how it represents River Island etc.
Lastly we were taken off individually for one on one interviews. We were asked questions about Teamwork, when we have helped someone, when we've completed a task, how we would describe ourselves etc.
The interview was actually really fun and by the time it got to the one on one part I felt so relaxed I was nowhere near as worried as I sometimes am during interviews.
