So, what had happened was, that I was sent on a wild goose chase for the same position title from March 2022 to July 2022. At one point, it felt like a diversity interview, but then one of the managers stated she couldn't wait on HR because they took too long for what she needed. My experience went something like this (mind you, my resume clearly states my experience. It lacked the full experience, but had all of the certifications required for the role):
1st LPM Interview - went ok. She checked me out on LinkedIn before having HR contact me. In the end, the hiring manager (HM) didn't know which candidate was which, because she'd asked me about a topic I was not familiar with. I won't repeat the topic, because I felt it was confidential. She mentioned that she really liked me and that she would reach back out to me because Mastercard (MC) was doing a hiring frenzy within 3-6 weeks. I never heard back from her and decided to reach back out directly to her. I received no response, she ghosted me.
2nd LPM Interview - It was ok as well. I didn't learn my lesson, so I applied again for the same title (LPM), different team, and different HM. This HM was the one I mentioned in the opening that she couldn't wait on HR, and she did what she wanted to do. Well, she reached out directly to me after checking me out on LinkedIn. She prescreened me here, then set up an interview with two of her workers. I didn't hear back 1-2 weeks after the interview, so again I reached out twice, the first time no response. The second time I reached out, she said she'd hired someone internally for the role on her team, but she thought I would be a good fit for the company so she forwarded my resume. Again, my resume totally lacked the experience, however, had all of the required certs for the role.
3rd LPM Interview - This one was horrible. LOL, Well, horrible because I mentioned I did not have the specific experience she geared the questions towards, however, she continued to ask me "experience specific" questions. I never reached back out to her! She sounded very rushed and I was overly frustrated with this one, but I still didn't learn my lesson, because Guess WHAT? You guessed it, I applied again for the same title…
4th LPM Interview - I LOVED THIS LADY! She had 20 years at MC, and she talked a great deal about mentoring, and making sure the person hired would be supported. She was very friendly and informative and asked the right questions. She wasn't rushed, even when the time count down came up. We even talked beyond the timeslot. I enjoyed the conversation and it appeared she did as well.
She was very patient, and I appreciated that. She gave me hope, but not so much so. I reached back out to her, but again, no response after 2-3 weeks. I have been ghosted yet again.
This relationship is becoming "abusive" (satire). :-) But I just hadn't learned my lesson, so I applied again!
5th LPM Interview. Listen, I STILL DID NOT ACQUIRE THE EXPERIENCE and it was still not reflected on my resume. I had another interview. This man seemed cool, but not quite it for me. I know they are looking for the right person (MEANING THE PERFECT CANDIDATE), but I too was looking for the right (PERFECT) leader! Eh… well, I thought, even still, I could still work and grow within the role. I reached back out within 2 weeks, but still no reply… The HR person that reached out to me for this one, suggested I go for another LPM role… and so you already know what I did… I interviewed…
6th LPM Interview. Again, the man seemed cool, but not quite it for me. Again, I still felt I could grow in the role because my personality doesn't allow for conflict. But this was it for me. I'm leaving Mastercard's Career Site!
My HR mentor told me in the beginning that the way the interviews go is what the culture was like. Looks like to me, MC may not a good cultural fit? I did use the word "may".
I wasted at least 6 hours of my time being interviewed with this company that is looking for the PERFECT candidate. Maybe I shouldn't say wasted, it was some great experience!
I've learned that companies are not looking to "invest" in training… well unless you are from an informal network of people who are given access to roles they don't qualify for. Two of the guys on one of the teams did not even have the industry certifications I had, nor did they know anything about the roles prior.
I believed the HMs when they said, "You will be great for the company". So I kept giving it a try like a broken relationship. But now, I am overly lethargic with this company.
But even though I've grown tired of MC's interview process, if they call me again for another LPM position, I just may interview again. Maybe they'll know exactly who I am and blackball me. Who knows?
They say practice makes perfect. My interview skills are about to be on point for the company they are preparing me for! #LETSGO
