The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement in Feb 2011
Interview
Apply online, takes weeks to possibly hear back. I applied several times at several stores. I took the initiative, to go into the store I was most interested in and introduce myself to the HR manager and let her know that I had applied online and that I was very interested in the position. I received a call for the interview from that store 2 days later, they did the background check, then received another call a couple for a 2nd interview with the manager of the store and was offered the position as long as the drug test came out clear, met back with the HR manager, took drug test and started the next week.

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement in Mar 2011
Interview
Applied on-line; Received call and did a phone interview within a couple of days; Invited in for on-site interview within 1 week; Interviewed with HR manager for site and the Department manager;
Questions were behavioral based - Irate customer; Difficult customer; Define time you were asked to do something you did not desire to do; Teamwork example; Multi-tasking; What to do when interrupted while doing task, etc.
Challenge I percieved - I have extensive customer service with insurance commercial/ business clients with more of the contact being over the telephone. I appeared to have some difficulties giving stories that the interviewers could relate to on the retail side. Concepts the same - i.e. listening with caring attitude to irate customer; Welcome suggestions of individuals who may have been successful with retail interviews, coming from non-retail background.
