I applied online. I interviewed at Duo Security (Austin, TX) in Mar 2017
Interview
I applied online, and was fortunate to be able to meet the hiring manager, who referred me to their recruiter. She set up a screening call right away and we had a great chat about Duo, the history of the company, the expanding offices and the new team the position was in. Very friendly and engaging. She then set up a technical interview with one of their senior engineers a few days later.
The pipeline was great right up until that. The engineer conducting the interview was fifteen minutes late. The technical portion was writing solutions to simple coding challenges easily available online. The questioning was brusque and the interview was rushed and incoherent. Having conducted technical interviews for other companies, I don't understand how this process could test an engineer's skills, especially at senior level.
Besides the silliness of the technical portion, the experience was great. My best to Duo and their success, and hope they continue to improve their interview process.
Thank you for sharing feedback on your candidate experience. We're thrilled to hear you had a great experience with your recruiting partner, and we're sorry to hear our technical interview didn't go as hoped. It doesn't sound like it lived up to our expectations either, and we'll review this feedback with our team to make sure we're being consistent in our preparation and technical interview experience.

Interview
Applied to this position through a recruiter and was rejected without an explanation.
Ended up meeting the hiring manager at the RSA Conference a couple of months later where he asked me to send him my LI profile and resume and we would schedule a date to discuss. Sent him what he asked for and he writes back saying that he wanted someone with more experience and was rejected again.
Oddly enough a couple of months later one of their recruiters contacts me saying they were both looking at LI profiles and the VP wanted to speak with me. Spoke with the recruiter first -- very friendly and professional and provided the requirements - they seemed a bit excessive for the role, but I had them so she said she would provide the info back to the VP again. The next day the recruiter told me that the VP was told he needed to consider people from certain companies and pass on the rest. Given my history with this role, I asked the recruiter to provide him some additional information about my background. She promised that she would do that. A couple days later she said that he understood that I was in a similar space, but there was nothing he could do so he had to pass yet again.
Very strange place - not sure what to make of them.
Thank you for sharing your experience and giving us feedback. Your feedback helps us learn and get better. We are sorry you did not have a positive experience interviewing with Duo. We’ll try to make changes to our recruiting process so that we don’t contact a candidate twice for the same role.
We wish you all the best in your search and career.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Duo Security (Ann Arbor, MI) in Feb 2017
Interview
This was my first experience interviewing with a tech company specifically and it didn't disappoint! As with some interview processes, this one took around 3 weeks in total interviewing time--there were a few pauses only because of key staff being out of town, and my awesome recruiter made sure I was in the know of that detail which was very nice of her.
I touched base first with my recruiter via phone and we had a chat about my skill sets, the type of position/the needs for the company and a bit about the company itself. Speaking with my recruiter was unique in that I never felt like I was being interrogated (as with other companies recruiters that I've experienced in the past). She and another Duo recruiter I've spoken with were super genial, helpful, and easy-going.
Afterwards, I had a phone chat scheduled with the manager of the role I'd applied for, which went into further specifics about the job, the company, some tech-talk, and plenty of Q&A between us.
After that, an in-person was scheduled, and I was e-mailed details as to who I'd be meeting with and the itinerary for that day. It was a 3 hour process that--thanks to top notch scheduling on the part of my interviewers--felt like it lasted maybe about an hour and half! There were a series of 30-minute one-on-one "getting to know you/getting to know the job & company" chats in Duo's elegant Allmendinger office, an easy-going lunch with two key staffers at a nearby bar/restaurant, then finally a brief office tour and conversational wrap-up with my recruiter.
I'll probably gauge any interview processes I have in the distant future by this one, it was super nicely executed. Everyone at Duo is a consistent pleasure to talk with and meet and they always do their best to make you feel welcome, whether or not you're coming in to interview with them.
Briefly explain a process for something that you know very well (a software, a technique, anything that involves you having to explain something clearly to something, etc).
