I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Dollar General in Jan 2011
Interview
I initially applied at dollar general back in January 2011. I received a call from the district manager, and we scheduled a 1 on 1 interview. The interview went very well, and we set up a phone interview with the regional manager. The regional manager never called. I called the district manager back and he apologized for the miscommunication. He said he would call me back the following week to reschedule. He never called. I called back and never received a return call. A few weeks (early July, 2011) ago I bumped into an associate that was at the store where I had originally interviewed. He asked me how everything went. When I explained what happened, he told me that the district manager had been demoted, and suggested I give the new (temporary) district manager a call. I did call him and went over my information and said he would like to get me on board. He said I would receive a call by the end of the week from HR. HR never called, so I called him back. He apologized and said he would forward my information again, and I would receive a call by the end of the day. No one called. He called me back the next day, and said he wanted to schedule a phone interview with the regional manager on Thursday at 9 AM. Thursday came and went, no one called.

The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Dollar General in Jun 2011
Interview
I applied in store. I got a call the same night asking for me to come in and take an assessment. I came in the next day to take the assessment, which was easy. Then the hiring manager asked me a few questions about school and told me I needed to go home and fill out the Express Hiring information. It wasn't reallly an interview at all. I was told I had to take the assessment to even have my application be considered, so I was very suprised when the hiring manager started talking about my starting pay and first day of work.
