Interview
The interview was held by a manager outside the finance stream and whilst I understand this could be effective for a soft skills and personality interview, when it came to technical questions and finance focussed questions I feel like I would have done much better against somebody who understood finance. Most of the interview was spent explaining my CV in detail. It appeared the interviewer had not even looked at my CV because he was asking specific questions about how long I had been in certain roles etc. The interviewer struggled to comprehend the nature of my work as a contractor and asked generic ‘definition’ questions for finance terms. The terms however ranged across a broad spectrum of finance functions that for somebody specialising in one area of finance would be near impossible to answer. There were some technical issues as we were wrapping up the interview and my feed was cut. I was not told what the next steps in the interview process were and I emailed the interviewer to follow up but have been ignored.
