I completed my application in the middle of September. At the end of October I received a phone call asking if I was interested in becoming a Mid-year hire, I said I was and was given an interview date.
My interview was on November 24th. The application was relatively easy. One of the people I had asked for a recommendation forgot to submit it and then accidentally deleted the email and City Year allowed me to send the recommendation again. During the face to face interview the guy who interviewed me was really nice. I felt a little weird with him typing away while I spoke. I felt like I had to keep talking. They asked questions about previous groups I've worked with, my experience working with children (I didnt have many but I do come from a very large family and spent two years as a Teaching assistant in college), how you would approach a teacher with years of experience if you see them doing something you see wrong (I said something about having the children's best interest and confronting the teacher). Overall they give you plenty of time to answer. You are in a large room that echoes while other interviews are going on. While it was a one-on-one interview, I could hear the other guy interviewing a few feet away from me. This was a little distracting. They said I would hear back on December 4th, however, I did not receive an email until December 7th. I was not offered the Mid year hire position but was offered a position that started in August 2015.
