I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at CarMax (Houston, TX) in Mar 2009
Interview
Once Carmax offers you an interview, be prepared to spend 2-3 hours. You will have a lot of paperwork, waiting, and multiple managers will come to ask you questions so they can get a collective perspective on you. A background and credit check will also be ran while you wait. For the company, the interview process makes sense, but as the interviewee, it is tiresome. By the time I had waited for 2 hours, and the 3rd person had asked me the same questions, I was ready to leave and unmotivated to work with the company.
Phone interview after applying through university website. Very friendly and mostly behavioral with a case question. The Human Resources representative as well as the interviewer were very pleasant to work with. I fumbled through parts of the case, but not because it was overly difficult. It was simply a question about probability and expected outcome.

Question 1
Probability but wasn't hard if you knew it was coming
I applied through college or university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at CarMax (Naperville, IL) in Dec 2011
Interview
The interview process at Carmax is somewhat in-depth, they have you meet with several different department heads and mangers to determine if you are a good fit for the team and company. They ask typical open-ended questions and want you to relate your prior experience to how you can fit well with the team and be a good employee. I liked the interview process, it was personable and professional. Just be yourself and be excited about the opportunity.
