I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at CarMax in Jan 2016
Interview
The hiring process was easy but long. It starts with a phone interview followed by a few in store interviews. The first is on a computer which is followed by an interview with a manager that is not from your department. After that we did a 2 manager interview where they went back and forth with questions. Then I went outside with another manager and a sales consultant to do a role play. Finally i got an interview with the main manager who offered me the job on the spot. This process usually takes a couple days but for me it was all in 1. A lot of the criteria they look for is being personable, a good listener and having a drive for sales.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CarMax (Richmond, VA) in Dec 2016
Interview
Had a phone interview then scheduled an in person interview. Basically had to take the day off from my current job. I was at the Carmax location for about 6 hours. Several computer tests consisting of hundreds of questions. Then several 1 on 1 interviews and several panel interviews. I thought that most of the interviews had gone really well. I felt a little weak with one of the 1 on 1 interviews, but thought I had the position for the most part. Didn't get the job. I asked the recruiter if he could tell me why so I may be able to correct for the next time and was told that one of the interviewers didn't think some of my answers were detailed enough.
