After passing initial coding assessment, virtual power day was scheduled. It consisted of four interviews - System Design, Coding, Behavioral, Case interviews. In System Design interview, after I drew the components I was trying to proceed to designing api and database. But, the interviewers started asking questions and did not let me lead the interview. They were impatient and it was one of the worst system design interviews that I attended. In coding interview, the interviewer tried to hasten me and asked me to run the code. It was not a great experience either. Behavioral consisted of only 3 questions while one hour was scheduled for the interview. Case interview consisted of quite easy analytical problem.
Recruiter mentioned that offer is given after team matching. So far, it appears that hiring managers at Capital One are narrow-minded. It appears that Capital One is not a technology focused company.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One (Tysons Corner, VA) in Sep 2022
Interview
The first screening was with the recruiter. I received an online coding quiz, two of questions were easyish, one was hard and one was medium. I didnt solve all of them correctly but got invited to the power day. The power day was four interviews: one system design, one behavioral, and two live coding. I didnt get great feedback on each one, but there were some funny things like one interviewer wanted me to accept user input in javascript. I didn't know how to do it off hand and we couldnt figure it out from google. The last interview of the day was another live coding challenge that I messed up a few things but got it right with some guidance from the interviewer. I ultimately was downleveled. I ended up denying the offer because they were putting me on a random team that I had no real interest in joining. They didn't really help in trying to get me into a different team and when I turned the job down I never heard anything again.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
System design question about various banking features that a bank may have
Had a single virtual full day interview that consisted of 4 rounds. Did pretty well in them, was called a couple day later saying I passed the interview and that all that was left was just the team matching process. Got strung along for more than 6 weeks while continuously being stone walled by the recruiters who kept telling me that I just needed to wait one more week to hear more news. No offer given and then completely ghosted.
