The interview process was pretty typical and flowed pretty well. One of the power day interviews was rescheduled which was inconvenient, but it happens. The real problem is with team matching. The idea they present to you is that one recruiter will be with you through that process. Instead, you are handed off and no recruiter takes responsibility. It was incredibly ineffective and just a poor experience.
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Capital One in Sep 2024
Interview
Recruiter reached out to me to schedule a 30 minute phone interview. After the phone interview, an assessment was sent to me. The assessment determines if you'll pass to the next round (which would be one-on-one interviews with a possible case study).
The assessment was ridiculous, and was essentially to determine if you're a cultural fit. It took me about 30 minutes to complete. There were multiple sections including scenario-based questions related to how you might handle situations at work, questions around what your current manager would rate you in terms of skill, and behavioral questions (more likely/least likely). There are plenty of questions that ask if you're more career driven or not, if you prefer working under pressure or not, etc.
In short, I ended up 'failing' it and didn't pass to the next round. How I failed, I'm not sure because there were truly no right or wrong answers (how do you have wrong answers for something that's behavioral or related to personality?). Mind you, I have been in a position for 5+ years that is very similar to the role Capital One is hiring for. I absolutely have the experience they were looking for. Yet, I must not have been a cultural fit. What I gathered is that they are looking for someone who puts career above everything, is willing to work under pressure/a lot of stress, and who prides themselves as being the best of the best. It's 2024 - we've all lived through a pandemic and I think we've all learned to manage things better than this. Disappointed, and don't want to work for a company who evaluates candidates this way.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The recruiter asked me if I met basic qualifications for the role, going through them one-by-one. They also asked me about my managerial experience and why I was interested in the role.
Capital One uses a power day format, back-to-back one person interviews in the same day (when feasible), typically 30-45. Interviews comprise of behavioral, and job fit. They do provide practice questions in advance
