Interview
Submitted my resume to the BBB portal. Did not apply for anything. Received a call two weeks later asking me to come in for an interview for an HR assistant role. I make an appointment for the next day. Managrt filled me in that there is not a HRIS and this is a perfect fit for a soon to be BBA in HR graduate like myself since it is entry level. She expressed enthusiasm that I already had some experience and couldn't wait to meet me.
I arrived the next day ten minutes early. Security called HR and they had me fill out an application before the interview. When finished I returned the application to security where they informed me that they would turn it in to HR and I was free to leave. I mentioned again that I was here for an interview that was scheduled. They called HR again. It was another 10 minutes before someone came to see me - you can probably guess it wasn't who I was told would be conducting the interview.
I spent about 30 minutes talking to the worlds worst interviewer. He couldn't come up with any questions other than "How would you handle 500 employees?" I was interviewing for an entry level hr position where I would be mainly helping people with questions about benefits - not upper management. When I explained my skills and how I would handle helping 500 associates, he just repeated the question. When I explained my background and experience, he kept saying how I was a perfect fit. I asked questions about a lack of HRIS and other hr matters - but he didn't seem to like those too much. Then he tells me at the end of the interview that the position was filled but he would call me if she didn't work out.
Okay, so someone at your office called me in for an interview the day before and asked that I come in for an interview about a job that I did not previously apply for. I wasted an hour of my time to drive there and another 30 minutes in a room with an incompetent interviewer. Nobody thought to tell me the position was filled? Right - because my time is less valuable to BB&B.
I received an offer from a competitor for much better pay and benefits the next week.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Bed Bath & Beyond (Sacramento, CA) in May 2016
Interview
I was interviewed by two managers. The first was interested in hearing about what I could offer to Bed Bath and Beyond and was very enthusiastic. The store manager was not a good listener and seemed very disinterested and bored.
