I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Barclays (New York, NY) in Mar 2011
Interview
Phone screen, then face to face; The manager asked relevant questions, but the employee doing the face to face was clearly not interested in hiring anyone, or even doing the interview, and was outright nasty. I got up and walked out on the guy while he was ranting.
There is NEVER a reason to tolerate abuse from an interviewer! I can't imagine what it must be like to work on that team.
Aside: this was clearly the Lehman Brothers unit within Barclays; based upon prior personal interviews (for other positions/teams), and those of my peers in that place, the folks in that building (1301 6th Ave) have an attitude. Personally, I will never waste me time there again.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Barclays in Feb 2011
Interview
First round was very standard competency questions.
The final round consisted of a relatively long group case study, with a group presentation on the case study that followed. There was a lot of material given, and it was important to prioritise and know which information to include in the presentation etc. Presentation was in front of one banker, Q&A session not particularly intense.
This was followed by four one on one interviews. Questions were mostly competency, a few basic technical valuation questions and some simple brainteasers. Interviewers were very friendly.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Barclays (New York, NY) in Feb 2011
Interview
They took us to the Four Seasons to get to know the recruiter and the interviewers. The interview consisted of two half hour sessions. The interviewers were extremely nice and friendly, but certainly misleading. I was told I had high chances by an interviewer who thought I was "extremely interesting," but did not receive an offer.
