Pros

Leanis in the Japanese DNA; its not used as an enforcement tool but a true problem solving, defect and waste removal tool. Yamaha utilizes the skillsets of every employee. True Kaizen and Small Group functionality. American companies and American ran foreign companies are practicing Lean decoration (strip the floor, hang signs, clean the building, color indications, reduce material, and eliminate headcount). Yamaha maintains head count while daily continuing to eliminate waste and reduce cost.

Cons

Pay is a little low by comparison but they do offer bonuses. While this is good the overall pay scale is generally to the low end. It's countered by job security

Pros

LOTS of overtime, worked in and around 6-7 different departments and assembly is the only department that doesnt get regular large amounts of overtime. Great medical, good 401k

Cons

second and third shifts are very common and getting more so, not fun for most folks who get stuck there. with identical pay for all folks in the same job (outside salaried positions) slackers can find opportunities and those with above average skill may not be recognized or even more often can be given any extra benefits of doing a good job over the slacker that is just in a "run out the clock situation" every day.

Pros

Company has good work-life balance and respectable benefits. Engineering has good perks - trips to support product launches, etc.

Cons

Micro-management is rampant - part of the Japanese culture. Pay is below average. My colleagues who have left have received 20% or higher raises in areas with similar cost of living index scores. Company places artificial requirements (tenure) on job promotions, no matter how good performance reviews are.
